Fiesta Latina presents Cumbe dance, aiming to take dancers on a joyful journey through Latin American dances and music that originated in Africa. Cumbe means "celebration" and has signified resistance and resilience from African heritage.
In this class, we will explore Afro-Latin rhythms from Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia. We will develop dance blends folkloric and traditional with modern and contemporary, safeguarding the traditional repertoire, but also creating new choreography that demonstrate connection to Afro Latin roots. This instructor for this class is Angela Delahoz. One or more parents of students participating in the class will also be present to help with attendance.
This is a PTA-sponsored program and is taught in Spanish.
Who May Participate?
Fiesta Latina is open to all Puesta del Sol students (K-5), up to 15 spots available. If the minimum enrollment of 3 students is not met, the class may be canceled.
How Can I Volunteer?
At least one PTA-member Parent must always be present to take attendance and help supervise. Parent Volunteer receives a 50% discounted registration fee for his/her child. Please register for the Parent Volunteer discount upon checkout. Only one discounted volunteer registration is available.
Time and Location:
Tuesday Mornings 8:00a - 8:55am in the Puesta del Sol Gymnasium.
Attire:
Girl dancers practice Cumbe with traditional skirts. There is a $15 practice/performance skirt rental fee.
Session Dates and Cost:
3/7, 3/17, 3/21, 3/28, 4/5, 4/18/, 4/25, 5/2,5/9, 5/16 (10 sessions). $200 per student
Tuition discounted 50% for parent volunteer committed to attend full session. Select Parent Volunteer when registering, only one discounted position available.
Payment:
Financial aid may be available for families with financial needs. If you would like to apply for financial aid, please fill out the Financial Aid Form and submit it to the Principal for approval. The Principal will pass the form on to the Deposits treasurer. All requests are kept confidential.

A check fee of $5 per order the will be automatically added to your online order when you opt to "pay by check." Financial aid co-pays will not be assessed the $5 fee.
