Join us for Tambores del Sol! Your child will learn a variety of rhythmic patterns and language styles associated with the hand drum (El Tambor). In addition, we will present drums from different regions of the world such as bata drums from Africa or Garawoun drums from the Garifunas in Central, South America and the Caribbean as an added bonus to expand their appreciation of culture and diversity. We are planning to provide a unique experience with invited artists to participate this season. We look forward to having your child in our program!
The classes are taught by Maestro Ricardo Guity, an experienced musician, educator, and member of our school community. We all know and adore him! The kids have a lot of fun and this is a great way for students to receive additional S.O.S/E.F.E.!! One or more parents of students participating in the class will also be present to help with attendance.
This is a PTA-sponsored program and is taught in Spanish.
Who May Participate?
Tambores is open to all Puesta 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, with a maximum of 17 students per session. If the minimum enrollment of 5 students is not met, the class may be canceled.
Exceptions may apply for younger students if they have experience with Tambores. Please contact us at tambores@puestadelsolpta.org to determine how they will do with the older kids and large equipment (K and 1st grade will need their actual parent/guardian to be present with them at class for liability reasons).
Both Beginners and Intermediate will be taught together. Each student should plan on committing to all three sessions so that she/he can perform with the Tambores ensemble at school events in Spring 2018.
How Can I Volunteer?
At least one PTA-member Parent must always be present to take attendance and help supervise. Parent Volunteer receives a 50% discounted registration fee for his/her child. Please register for the Parent Volunteer discount upon checkout. Only one discounted volunteer registration is available.
Time and Location: New Day & Location Mondays, 3:35-4:45pm in the Band Portable (P-2).
Please have your child meet the instructor and chaperone at the school Gym right after school ends. Please supply your child with an after school nut-free snack (the gym has a drinking fountain).
Special Equipment:
Participants MUST have their own drum - a hand drum (El Tambor). The tambor/conga will be an average of 28” tall and could be either 10” or 11” around (no specific wood color – your choice). We recognize that families have different abilities to pay and have developed this voluntary 4-tier fee structure to better meet everyone’s needs. Simply select the rate appropriate for your family’s budget. This is completely confidential and does not impact your child’s program experience in any way.
Financial aid may be available for families with financial needs. If you would like to apply for financial aid, please fill out the Financial Aid Form and submit it to the Principal for approval. The Principal will pass the form on to the Deposits treasurer. All requests are kept confidential.
The last day to apply for financial aid for Session 4 is Friday, May 18.
